Corsair, a 1933 Fred Lidgard design, hauled out at Lane's boatyard in Panmure, Auckland. The yacht was built traditionally in planked heart kauri with southern beech ribs, some of which were rotten and had to be replaced. We learned manyof our first boat building and boat maintenance skills with the help of Victor, the Samoan boatbuilder assigned to Corsair.

The first time we set the sails on Corsair was at Rangitoto Island, in the Hauraki Gulf.
