Home!

We waited at Hospital Point until the weather calmed down and it was safe to go. That was at 7:30 pm Sunday night. We had a 14 hour window between episodes of high winds. We used 11 of those hours.

Hospital Point, VA

We traveled only about 12 miles from Great Bridge to Hospital Point. We are 0.2 miles from the termination of the Atlantic ICW. We have traveled 1019 miles on the ICW south and 1019 north, plus extensive travels in the Bahamas.

We had a nice trip up the Currituck Sound and stopped at the free dock in Chesapeake, VA. The dock is next to the bridge and lock at Great Bridge. It is an excellent lace to get off the boat and walk in the park.

Dowry Creek Marina near Belhaven

We left Beaufort at first light and motorsailed our way north. The day started calm and we fought the current up Adams Creek to the Neuse River. We passed Oriental, and kept on truckin'. The wind picked up a bit as we reached the mouth of the river. By the time we exited Goose Creek and entered the [...]

Cambridge Cay – Hiding from Squirrely Winds

Thursday January 13, 2022. We have been here several days already, to our benefit. We are on a solid mooring with good protection from the east winds, which blew at over 30 knots Tuesday night. Shawn did talk Jim into playing cards for an hour or two on Wednesday afternoon. Then the wind calmed down enough for us to leave the boat and visit our new friends Mike and Heather on Salvea. It was a great break!

Today we expect the wind to shift around to the west. Fortunately, we do have good protection from the west as well. It should not be too strong tonight, then it moves again. Saturday will be L and V (light and variable). A new weather force will kick in on Saturday night and Sunday. We have been warned to expect very strong winds from the west this weekend, so we are not going anywhere for several days.

Saturday, we plan to use the calm winds to snorkel at low tide at Rocky Dundas with Mike and Heather. Other than that, we will be hiking, running the water maker, washing clothes and playing cards. We both have good books!

Internet is very limited and unreliable, so updates to the blog will be limited through Tuesday, at least. Then we may move south.
