On to Walburg Creek
27 March 2022
We enjoyed a few days at Jekyll Island. We rode bikes, walked around and took it easy. Now it is back to traveling home.
We left Jekyll at high tide and a calm wind. By the time we rounded the island, the current fought us and did not quit all day. The wind built to 25 kt. So it turned into 11.5 hrs of tough going.
Little Mid Creek was the worst. We hit it near low tide and the wind had blown one or two feet out of the creek. We slowed to a crawl with less than 6 ft of water for a couple of miles. I saw depth readings as low as 3.7 ft. We draw 5.4 ft. We stopped, turned around and tried another way. It was slow and stressful.
We made slow progress fighting current and wind. We finally pulled into Walburg Creek as the sun was setting. The best part of the day was a text from my sister. The Tar Heels beat St. Peter’s handily. Great news. Looking forward to playing Dook.
