Home!

We waited at Hospital Point until the weather calmed down and it was safe to go. That was at 7:30 pm Sunday night. We had a 14 hour window between episodes of high winds. We used 11 of those hours.

Hospital Point, VA

We traveled only about 12 miles from Great Bridge to Hospital Point. We are 0.2 miles from the termination of the Atlantic ICW. We have traveled 1019 miles on the ICW south and 1019 north, plus extensive travels in the Bahamas.

Great Bridge, VA

We had a nice trip up the Currituck Sound and stopped at the free dock in Chesapeake, VA. The dock is next to the bridge and lock at Great Bridge. It is an excellent lace to get off the boat and walk in the park.

Dowry Creek Marina near Belhaven

We left Beaufort at first light and motorsailed our way north. The day started calm and we fought the current up Adams Creek to the Neuse River. We passed Oriental, and kept on truckin'. The wind picked up a bit as we reached the mouth of the river. By the time we exited Goose Creek and entered the [...]

We departed Red #90 at first light. The Georgetown marina closes at 5 PM, and we desperately wanted to secure the boat with the assistance of the marina staff.

In the early morning the water was flat and the current was pretty neutral. The current in the ICW ditch in this section is not charted. We really could only hope we would not get a strong current in our face for too long.

After an hour or two of motoring, we opened up the genoa for some motor sailing. That moved us up between 0.5 and 2 kts more quickly than the engine alone. The waterway was aligned well with the S wind and we made excellent progress. At times we were traveling over 8 kts (trust me, that is fast on our boat!).

The closer we got to Winyah Bay and Georgetown, the stronger the wind. By the time we reached Winyah Bay the wind was 25 kts. We eventually furled the sail and slowed down from 6 to 4 kts. Five foot seas were coming at our stern. It was an exciting end to a quick passage.

We arrived at Hazzard Marina by 2:30 PM and tied up. The marina is small are very nice. We walked around the lovely historic town of Georgetown. We had a delightful sushi dinner at the Rollin Local. Wednesday has Hump Day prices at the Rollin Local, half price. We had dinner and bought take out for lunch the next day. We had dinner, drinks and lunch the next day for $50 plus tip. Awesome!

We will be here for two days. Our plan, weather permitting, is to go Friday (April 1) morning to Calabash (ICW Mile Mark 342), Saturday to Carolina Beach (MM 295, go Heels and beat Dook in the NCAA Final Four), Sunday to Mile Hammock (MM 245) and Saturday (April 5) to Beaufort, NC (MM 203).
