Our anchorage at Watmough Bay

This is a photo of our boat taken by another boater within the bay. We were well within the bay and protected from the waves by the horseshoe shape of the bay. However we were not protected from the wind. That evening and into the next day we were experiencing gale force winds. Our anchor rode chafed against the bow roller bracket. I went to the bow to check if everything was OK and found that the anchor rode had completely chaffed two of the three strands and was in the process of chaffing the last strand. I had Patty take the helm and motor toward the anchor so we could retie at a point above the chaffing. We were making progress toward that goal when a huge gust of wind pulled the anchor rode out of my hands. When it went tight again it snapped the last strand. We then had to leave since we didn't have a second anchor. We went to Friday Harbor because that was our best chance to purchase a new anchor.
