Wednesday July 6
Underway at 0610. At 1030 the wake from an MSC containership broke my favorite coffee mug. I bought that mug in the early 90s in Chestertown at a fundraiser for the Lady Maryland. Bummer.I could sail for a few hours but took the main down when we entered the Cape May Channel, with little wind, but dead on the nose. A fog bank on the Atlantic side reduced visibility to under a mile for a while, but it cleared when I entered the Cape May inlet. I dropped anchor near the Coast Guard station at 1520. Again, at first I was the only boat in the anchorage, although a few boats came in later that afternoon.
I noticed that there was some sediment in the aft Racor filter. I drained the bowl and replaced the filter. I need to draw a sample from the bottom of the fuel tank and check the fuel quality.
Oysters and dinner at the Raw Bar of the Lobster House.

I took a sample from the bottom of the fuel tank, but did not notice any water or slime. I added an 1/8 of oil to the Yanmar, filled two diesel jugs at Utsch's and tinkered with the Tohatsu carb adjustment. It was not starting well and running rough. I hope that after it seized this past winter it has not been irreparably damaged. Later I deflated the dinghy in preparation for the 200 nm trip to Block Island.
Pizza (clams and garlic) at Lucky Bones. It is good I am alone on board and do not expect to entertain any time soon, because that pizza had LOTS of garlic!
