I left again at 0545. The wind was from the SW and again light but despite that it was choppy with a short SE swell of 3 feet. At 0900 I saw several dolphins and a whale E of Cape Ann. I am not sure if they were dolphins, because they seem to have a larger and more pointed back fin. Later I saw more dolphins. This is the first trip that I saw so many dolphins north of the mouth of the Delaware. I don’t know if it is just co-incidence or that it has perhaps something to do with the warming of the sea temperature. It is said that the Gulf of Maine is rapidly warming. At 1635, just SW of Cape Cod I felt that the keel hit something soft. It did not slow down Curlew, and looking in the wake I did not see anything. At 1745 I anchored in Provincetown putting out 180 feet of chain in 50 feet of water.
