Thanksgiving Adventure Part 4

01 December 2016
We wake in the morning but don't immediately get up because DAMN is it freezing out. For Florida. It was 40 degrees or something!!
Shawn the polar bear takes a while to encourage himself to get out of bed because snuggling under the covers is so wonderful and getting up in the cold to find out whether the engine will turn on this morning (an answer we're scared of this whole trip) is not wonderful. Eventually we kick ourselves out of bed, the engine turns on (phew!!). We flick on the inverted, then the rest of the power and...
No instruments.
$#!^

Shawn starts rooting around the circuitry while I root around the internet for answers. Eventually he discovers not a blown, but MELTED fuse. He cannibalizes a fuse from the battery indicator (because seriously what use is that right now?) and thankfully that works. We have power for now.

But at this point, our vacation is over. We don't have any other fuses. The instruments go out, they're out, and we're in the Atlantic. Not good. So we tuck our tails between our legs and begin the journey home.

At this point I realize the turkey breast in the oven is going to go bad if the electricity fully goes out (propane fridges still need SOME energy), so I make us a lovely turkey breast with stuffing. We go through WPB inlet and discover the species Giganticus Anus in its many forms, such as FOUR 400HP engines. Gee, that's great for the environment. Also some really nice yachts we could never afford. Now I understand we technically own a yacht, but...no, we don't own THAT kind of yacht.

The Indiantown bridgemaster is another G. Anus and despite nobody going through the bridge at the hour, refuses to open up for us being 2 minutes late and calling ahead so we're forced to circle the bridge for a freakin' half-hour. We can't turn off the engine or it might not start again. Lovely 30 minutes for Shawn, let me tell you.

After all of these bridges we're considering going back in the Atlantic, but there are only two inlets north at this point: Jupiter and Ft. Pierce. Jupiter inlet is...terrifying, so we decide to stay in the ICW. Eventually we anchor just past Hobe Sound bridge where the water off the ICW is 3-4 feet at deepest. Hooray for catamarans!

The second we drop to idle we realize there's a mosquito invasion below deck and quickly put up the screens. After anchoring we spend a half hour hunting down every last one of those f%*@ers and taping up the screens to be absolutely sure they won't get in at night. Chuckled to ourselves that we have the same view as these fancy mansions nearby for a fraction of the cost, and go to sleep.
