Fishing Tales

07 March 2017
We fished a lot this weekend. Fishing for Cat6 ethernet cable, specifically!

This weekend with the help of Shawn's dad we set up the physical part of the Ubiquiti Bullet system. We attached the bullet to a TP-Link Omni-directional antenna, and all of this was affixed astern with the dinghy davit. We wrapped the part of the cable left outside with silicone tape (to make it more weather resistant) and caulked it to the back of the boat. A small hole was made in the hull to fish it through. I have pictures, but I have yet to figure out how to properly embed photos in blog posts.

We've mounted the router to the wall and hooked it up. I tried doing some software work with it, but with my old laptop constantly freezing from this terrible virus known as Windows 10, I've put it off until we get our new laptops.

When they get here sometime next week I'll begin the setup and post a guide on how to set it up for any other sailors interested in the system. I'll include everything we purchased with cost. The bullet, antenna, and tape came to about $155 online. Ethernet cables and equipment were probably around $30? And of course, you need a router. This is all a lot cheaper than I expected so I'm really hoping it's not too good to be true!
