The Fossil and the Sea

Coral reefs and fossils are ubiquitous - millennia come and go; all that remains are the faint memories imprinted upon our souls . . . and more fossils come to be . . . . a life at sea is quite awesome!!!

Wooden ships worst enemy - rot!

Before the sailing could begin, a lot of work was done. Frank Halls & Sons worked long and hard to get the rot away and put Golden Morn back together and back in the water - she had been ashore since October 2012.

She was brought ashore by the coastguards after her previous owner suffered a serious medical condition - in September 2012 - and was airlifted to hospital from her deck. . . he survived but can't sail anymore. I have yet to meet him, but I can state categorically he is a well-organised, caring gentleman who certainly took good care of Golden Morn before me. Images of the rot removal work can be seen here: http://www.eventides.org.uk/builder38.htm

Rye - towed in by life-boat - fuel pump failed, filling the engine sump with diesel, losing oil pressure and generally causing a stir... Dover Coastguard were fantastic, as were the emergency guys n gals of Rye Harbour. Thanks to all concerned.

The images that first drew me to Golden Morn's striking good looks, her gracious lines, her mature strength. It is said a sailor must love his ship - or he'll not be up for the challenges and sacrifices facing a life wandering the seas and lands of the world.

I can honestly say I love my ship - she is all I ever wanted or needed :-)
