Our Departure
11 September 2016
On September 10th we left Mooney Bay Marina (Lake Champlain) at approximately 11:00 am. Our crew consisted of Larry and Beth Gray.
We motored away from the dock in a gentle 5 knot breeze with calm seas. The weather report indicated 10-15 knots of wind from the south with 1-2 foot seas. Within two hours we encountered 20 knots plus and increasing seas. After a few tense hours and a change in destination, and several words to the wind gods, we arrived in Willsboro Bay.
Fortunately when the boys, Skip Tetro and brother Larry, took the mast down they built extremely robust mast crutches. The structure and strapping was well tested; we arrived without an issue.
On Sunday we remained wind bound safely in Willsboro Bay awaiting an early Monday morning departure in forecasted light winds. If all goes well we should be entering the Champlain Canal Monday afternoon.
