Champlain Canal, Weedbound
13 September 2016 | Lock three
Larry here, giving A and B a break on the writing duties. We left Whitehall bright and early to cool misty conditions. Less wildlife than yesterday, but lots of birds of prey. Ten locks on the canal, trying to get to Waterford where the Erie Canal turns off. We had stopped there four ago on the delivery cruise and enjoyed the town. However it was not to be. After seven locks with three to go the lockmaster asked us to pullover for a chat. It turns out there was a massive weed bed of chestnut stringers blocking the entrance to the next lock. Several boats ahead of us had had problems including clogged water intakes etc. , hopefully including the idiot who had passed us yesterday a high speed in a narrow channel and gave us a vicious roll with the mast way above our heads.. So the decision was rapidly taken to stay put and see what happens in the am. Very hot luckily Allan had asked me to bring my camping tarp so we have some shade. It's very quiet here we're all enjoying a swim, a bit low on water so the boys are taking the girls out to dinner. We weren't too popular after trimming the girls at Kanasta so we'll see what happens a the card table after dinner. L
