Waterford to Catskills
18 September 2016
When we arrived in Waterford on Wednesday afternoon the only dock space open was at the pump out dock. Fortunately, for us, the office was closed so we could tie up for the evening; however, we had to be sure to leave early the next morning. I was up brewing coffee when I heard our neighbours leaving; the crew quickly scrambled into action so that we could transit the next lock with them. The Troy Lock is a big commercial lock and we didn't want anymore lock delays, our timing worked well and we were all through the lock by 8 a.m.
It was a hot, sunny and beautiful day. We experienced our first encounter with tides, barges and ships. After 37 nautical miles we arrived at Catskills. Unfortunately, there were three boats ahead of us in the line at the mast crane so we were delayed until Friday morning.
