Mauled in Mill Creek
10 October 2016
After another defeat at the scrabble table (hard to win against a school teacher) we hunkered down for a windy rainy night. Sunday morning arrived, cloudy and cool with 3 inches of rain in the dinghy but blue skies on the horizon. The clear skies arrived mid morning as advertised but so did the wind, 20 knots gusting 40. Fortunately the locals had guided us to a well protected spot, we were protected by high ridges with houses on top surrounded by tall trees. It seemed a little strange to feel the boat shudder from a wind gusts hitting the top of the mast while the water was calm. A couple of local boats wound up sitting in the mud as the north wind blew water out of the creek at low tide, our Monday morning departure could be a challenge.
We invited Al and Tess over for Thanksgiving dinner, our turkey was meatloaf. However good company and a great setting made it a memorable dinner. Plans are made and shopping lists edited for our return to Mecca on Monday.
