Blast Off
21 November 2016
Our choice to anchor five miles south of Titusville proved to be an excellent decision. We were protected from the northwest winds of a cold front that blew through over night and we also had an excellent view of the satellite launch that we viewed with new friends fron Newfoundland.
We sat aboard 'Bonavista' having a cocktail and watching the launch. Although delayed an hour it was well worth the wait. What a spectacular sight as the rocket lit up the night sky! We were all in awe. We didn't take any pictures but we took a video which may be x-rated because of the comments on it. Hopefully, in the next couple of days we will get a picture of the launch from Sharon which we will post.
It was a very windy night (gusts of 30+ knots) but the anchor did it's job and we were secure in our well protected anchorage. We left the next morning and followed Bonavista to Melbourne where we located another protected anchorage from the persistent north winds and we experienced a peaceful night.
Today we pulled anchor around 8:15 and headed for Vero Beach where we plan on celebrating American Thanksgiving with the sailing community. Apparently, it is the place to be to celebrate; boats are rafted three wide on moorings and three-hundred plus boats will enjoy a pot luck dinner on Thursday. While we are here we hope to gather information and companions to cross to the Bahamas. We need to decide when and where we are going to cross.
The picture today is of 'O Suprise', a boat that we first saw way back in Catskills New York. The Captain is alone travelling from Quebec City to the Bahamas; he is also travelling with another solo Quebec sailor.
