Rush Hour on the ICW
01 December 2016
We were anxious to get going this morning to try and get as close to Ft. Lauderdale as possible; however, we had to wait for the tide to quit running before leaving. The marina in Riviera Beach is great but the one thing that causes issues is the strong tidal current that flows through the harbour; this coupled with narrow fairways can make it a bit tricky. Bob and I often curse the narrow alleyways and tight docking at Mooney Bay, however that has been great practise for some of the stops we've made along the way. Lake Worth anchorage is still full of boats waiting to cross to the Abacos and by the look of the weather they may be there a couple of more days.
We had a tiring day as we juggled the bridge schedules along our route and managed to transit 12 bridges before calling it a day in Boca Raton. Some bridges open on demand while others have scheduled openings that require careful monitoring of the times to make the best progress. The day went fairly well until there was an accident on a bridge as we were approaching, this delayed us for a while. Our plan is to move to Ft. Lauderdale tomorrow and then see what the weather does before staging in Key Biscayne.
