All Set To Go

06 December 2016
We got away from Boca Raton in time to catch the 7:20 opening of our first bridge and this set us up for a productive day of travel on the ICW. We were safely anchored in Ft . Lauderdale by 1p.m. only 2 miles from the exit to the ocean. We seem to meet a lot of Martimers as we're anchored beside a boat from Halifax who have been on the go down here for 4 years. We secured everything we could on the boat since the forecast for Tuesday was 10-15 kts. out of the south which meant we would be motoring right into the waves for 30 miles. We spent a peaceful evening marvelling at the huge homes and amazed by the number of empty condos on the waterfront.
The alarm sounded at 6:20 Tuesday morning so we could get under way early; we still had two bridges to cross and we were anxious to get going. Over the last couple of days we have exchanged a few emails with the people who we will cross to the Bahamas with and we had planned a rendezvous for Tuesday afternoon in No Name
Harbour. When we got out of the cut it was obvious that the forecast wasn't quite right, most of the way the wind was 20-25 kts. with a couple of gusts near 30 and the waves anywhere from 2-6 feet. We debated turning around but figured that Dagny was performing well so we carried on and safely arrived at our destination at 1:00 pm.
We anchored outside the harbour and it is still blowing at least 15 but they claim it will drop soon. Ti Amo arrived from the south and we'll dinghy over to officially meet them shortly.

Bev and I are looking forward to getting to the Bahamas tomorrow, this trip has been a dream of ours for a long time and we're glad we have a great boat to do it in. However, it's not the size of the boat but the size of the dream that matters. Today's photo is of me on my Tanzer 22 "Sun Kissed" taken by Steve Martin as we sailed the Bahamas in 1978.
