Oven Rock
18 January 2017
We left the anchorage under reefed main and partially furled jib and had a great sail in a stiff 20 +knot breeze. Our destination for the day was Oven Rock which is about 10 miles south of Black Point where we planned to explore some caves. We anchored off a beautiful little beach and headed ashore in search of the path that would lead us to the caves. As we approached the top of the hill we found the caves that have two fresh water pools in them, one is apparently 500' deep.We then climbed to the top of a high hill and enjoyed a beautiful view of the ocean and the surrounding cays. One of the big attractions of the Exumas is that most of the time you can anchor on the west side of a cay for protection from the east trade winds and once onshore have fantastic views of the ocean to the east. Yet another memorable day!
