Dean's Blue Hole

31 January 2017
We rented a car today so we could tour the island and specifically to visit Dean's Blue Hole. This is the deepest blue water hole in the world and it is an amazing sight to see but at the same time a little scary. You can stand at the edge of the hole in knee deep water yet 30 feet away at the centre it is 663 feet deep. They have had numerous completions here and unfortunately not everyone has survived. The record dive is over 350 deep without oxygen and the swimmer was under water for over four and a half minutes. Bev and I swam out to the raft in the middle and the colour of the water is a remarkable deep blue. Last week I was thrilled when I dove 9 feet to check our anchor and I really can't imagine what these people are capable of.

All in all we had a great day driving around this relatively prosperous island and we finished the day with a sailor's happy hour on a local beach.
