Otto is our Raymarine autopilot who has faithfully served us since we bought Dagny in 2012 and did yeomen service as he took us to the Bahamas and back in 2016. However, yesterday as we turned to enter the Sassafras river poor Otto couldn't figure out where he was going. Whenever I entered a small course correction he would wildly swing from left to right like a drunken sailor so we reluctantly had to turn him off until we could find the problem. Once we arrived in Georgetown and had our reunion with 2 Outrageous, Paul and I had a chance to sit down and discuss various boat problems we were experiencing. I asked Paul what would happen if I put something too close to the flux gate compass which controls the auto pilot. He explained it was possible but it would have to be big. Well.... when we were resting in Chesapeake City I tidied up a few things which included storing my big ratchet straps. Guess what, I found a great place in the same locker as the compass. So, today when we left the dock I moved them to another spot and Otto was back to his old self and happily steered us to Annapolis.
We had our first great sail of the trip under overcast skies and made super time in a 20 nw breeze. We arrived in Annapolis around 5:00 and slowly motored by the City Dock where the power boat show is being held. We're currently anchored in Spa Creek and expect to be here a few days enjoying the town and gathering a few spare parts. Also we will be catching up with our Annapolis sailing friends.
Today's picture is of a beautiful dark blue boat just slightly out of our price range.
