Looking for Warm Weather
18 October 2018

When we went to bed last night the forecast called for clear and cold overnight as a cold front swept through the area. Well they certainly got it right, the overnight low was 7c and the wind was 15 gusting 20 at bedtime. However, we knew it wouldn't last and by midnight the wind picked up with gusts up to 35knots throughout the night. Fortunately we had moved to a better spot in the anchorage earlier in the day so we could let out more chain and we rode out the weather without an issue. The weather forecasts aren't great for the next week and we have to make time when we can, so reluctantly we left St. Micheals bound for Solomons Island.
Our day started with a 7 mile motor into 20 knots of cool breeze before we could bear off and sail down the bay to our destination. The breeze was up and down so we sailed when we could and motor sailed the rest of the trip arriving in Solomons around 5 p.m. Hopefully, we'll have a much quieter night at anchor as we're both a little sleep deprived from last night. We expect to be here 2 days before heading to Reedville to visit my mother's cousin and then continue down the bay.
Today's picture was actually taken yesterday, it's the lighthouse at the Maritime Museum. I had mentioned that there was a replica lighthouse there, actually that's not correct. This lighthouse was built in 1879 and sat on stilts above the water at Hooper Strait for many years.
