Ready to Rock

14 November 2018
Today's world of internet and on line shopping have certainly made it easier to keep up with our requirements when travelling. I ordered our new pump Monday and it was overnighted to the marina and arrived by 10 a.m. on Tuesday. However, the mounting bracket needed a small bit of machining so it would fit on the Westerbeke bracket. Fortunately, we had reserved the marina courtesy car for noon so we were able to deliver the pump to a local machine shop. However, they told us it wouldn't be ready until Wednesday morning and since the courtesy car was already booked we had to find an alternative ride for the next morning.

The weather during this delay has been miserable so despite getting antsy to be on the move again we really haven't missed much. We try not to stay in marinas very often but considering the inclement weather the last two nights it's been a blessing to be connected to shore power.

During dinner aboard Driftaway last night we were discussing how I could retrieve our pump in the morning. It was decided that I would buy breakfast and Jimmy would drive me on his motorcycle, over wine it certainly sounded like a great idea. When I awoke this morning I thought about all the crazy stunts Jimmy and I had pulled driving when we were young. Suddenly it crossed my mind
"What was I thinking".
Even though it has been 40 years since I've been on a motorcycle, I quickly got the hang of it again and enjoyed the ride despite the cold temperature.

We got back to the boat around 10 a.m. with the modified pump and within half an hour it was installed and tested. The tidal current at this marina is very strong so we planned on leaving around noon at slack tide. However, it's cold again today, 10c, the forecast calls for thunderstorms, 35 knot gusts and an inch of rain. Wisely we've decided to stay put and cast off first thing in the morning. It finally looks like we'll be getting a break in the weather for a few days so we should be able to make up some lost time.

Today's picture is self explanatory.
