St. Augustine
20 November 2018

We spent the rest of Sunday relaxing and catching up on our sleep after our run down from Beaufort. The tidal current is fairly strong here and we're anchored close to the bridge so we decided to stay on the boat for the day through a tide cycle to be sure everything was ok. Things looked fine until some guy anchored right beside us which caused a little tension, after a few minutes he moved a little further away. During calm winds the boats just pull straight on their anchor chains but when the wind is against the tide the boats dance all over the place. Fortunately things worked out and we had a great night's sleep.
Monday was tourist day and once the pea soup fog burned off it was time to head ashore. Historic downtown St. Augustine is beautiful with the Fort overlooking the harbour and the old town center is one of our favourite spots. Unfortunately we missed the lighting of the Christmas lights on a Saturday evening for the holiday season. However, between the white lights and the red poinsettias the decorations are absolutely beautiful. After a nice day of walking around town we met up with 2Outrageous for dinner. The downtown core is full of great restaurants and bars and most have live music 7 days a week. After a nice evening on the town we retired to Dagny for the night.
We've decided to stay here until Friday, the local cruiser's net hosts a free Thanksgiving pot luck dinner which is a highlight of the season. It's a great time to meet new people and gather info on places to go and things to see. In the meantime we'll have lots of time to visit some of the numerous attractions around town.
Today's picture is our early morning view of the waterfront.
