Happy New Year!!

01 January 2019
Happy New Year everyone and all the best for 2019.

We spent another relaxing day in the anchorage at Staniel Cay under beautiful sunny skies. There were even more boats arriving throughout the day in preparation for New Year's Eve. The yacht club hosts a big party which attracts the mega yacht crowd but most of the sailors stick to smaller get togethers in the anchorage.

Bev tried her hand at baking bread again, this time with great success using Laurie's recipe. There is always boat maintenance to do, so while Bev was busy I spent the morning polishing various stainless steel fittings. The salt gets into everything and it's important to try and stay ahead of the game. Once our chores were done we headed off for a dinghy tour among all the mega yachts to see at how the other side travels. I must admit, it is impressive but completely over the top.

After our dinghy tour we headed over to Pirate Beach for the rest of the afternoon and met up with a few other crews to toast the out going year. The original plan of a beach potluck dinner never got off the ground due to the size of the crowd so we returned to the boats for a quiet relaxing dinner. One of the mega yachts sent it's crew to the beach and set off a 15 minute fireworks display at 9 p.m., which is the unofficial cruisers midnight. A few other boats also set off smaller fireworks displays allowing us to toast the New Year and call it a day. After all it was midnight somewhere in the world.

Today's picture is of one of our neighbours, and yes, we're still waiting for the drink invitation.
