Our lucky day

21 November 2012 | Bahia Los Frailes
Julie
We spent yesterday walking down a beautiful sandy beach with fellow cruisers Rocky and Renee on S/V Euphoria. After our walk, the 4 of us enjoyed lunch aboard Kia Ora and then transferred the party to Euphoria for a taco dinner with rummies. Ken and I were happy to spend the day with such great people.

I woke before the sun came up and moved up to the cockpit to watch it rise. The bay were are in is fascinating. As the sun came up hundreds of fish went into a feeding frenzy right next to me.

When Ken got up I made pancakes and then we both went for a swim off the boat. Luckily Ken put on a mask to look at the fish. Instead of looking at the fish, however, he looked at the prop and found that we had managed to get a mass of polypropelene line and a bunch of monofiliment wrapped around the shaft. When did that happen? I got a knife for him and he free dove about 6 times to free the mass. Boy did we get lucky. That could have easily have seized the prop making us engineless.

After reading a while we took the dinghy to shore and snorkeled the reef. We saw butterfly, angel, tang, damsel, wrasse, blenny, triggerfish, parrotfish, puffer and an moray eel. We were forced to hurry back to the dinghy when I noticed it floating away. The tide had come in and the tiny anchor that we burried in the sand was no match for the pounding surf that wanted the dinghy set free.

So no I sit after a full day of fun in the sun, watching a new fish feeding frenzy taking place on my right and just two people walking down the lovely, lonesome beach on my left.

Today was a lucky day.
