Mazatlan. Where is my fan?

26 November 2012 | Mazatlan
Julie, hot and humid
We crossed the Sea of Cortez 2 days ago. We had 20 knots of wind on our beam as soon as we left the anchorage and that slowly decreased to about 5 knots over a period of about 15 hours. We sailed most of the way and then were forced to start the engine in the middle of the night to push us the rest of the way to the mainland.

We pulled into Mazatlan around 7 am and are now tied to a dock at the Fonatur Marina. This is a small marina with only 20 slips. Half are empty. The staff is friendly the facilities are adequate and the price is low. The grocery store is just around the corner so I consider that a bonus!
We haven’t done anything fun here yet because we spent yesterday and today looking for parts and finding a welder. Tomorrow we play!

It’s hot and humid here. It’s 8:30 pm right now and the cabin temp is 83 degrees. It’s cooler outside and I’d like to pull some of that cooler air in but I can’t find our big fan. It got buried someplace and it’s too warm to put much energy into digging for it. Ken thinks he put it in the chain locker. In order to get to the chain locker you have to move everything out of the forward cabin (the area that we now call ‘the garage’). This is no small job! Everything that is up there is big, heavy and bulky. Bikes, kayaks, a table, about a dozen pails of cat litter; you get the picture. I was fooled into looking in the chain locker THREE TIMES. The joke’s on me. We put our new sun shade up this evening so hopefully the boat won’t get quite so warm tomorrow.

Speaking of cat litter…we stocked up heavily in San Diego and boy am I glad that we did! We’ve only found it for sale in two places and one place (Walmart) wanted $20 for a little tiny bag of clay litter. We’re good for a while but I’m sure once we find it for sale, we’ll be stocking up again.

The only other thing that we can’t seem to find much of is chocolate candy. When we do find it, it’s terribly expensive so we’ll just have to live off what we brought with us.
