In a lagoon

06 January 2013 | Barra de Navidad, Mexico
Julie, Sunny
We made the short, 14 mile hope down to Barra de Navidad yesterday where we poked our way through a narrow, unmarked channel into a lagoon. The lagoon is large but the area that is deep enough to anchor in is small. We found a suitable spot, and carefully set the anchor in 10 feet of water with a bottom of soft mud. The book says to let out 100 feet but boats have been dragging anchor lately so we set out 150. We stayed in one spot in 20 knots of wind so hopefully we are set okay.

We took a water taxi into town last night with our friends from The Beguine, Valhalla, and Rubber Duckies. Had a good meal in a restaurant that had lost it's power, walked around town, did a little shopping the the local tourist type shops then went to listen to some live music where we shook our fannies a little.

There is a guy in Barra that has a french bakery in town. Every morning he comes out to the anhorage selling treats. We bought 3 croissants (one was chocolate!), a danish, and a baguette. Expensive but what a treat for breakfast!

This is turning out to be a great spot. So far, all of the anchorages south of Bandaras Bay have been enjoyable.
