4 days ago I got an email notice that Hurricane Erick would be expected to pass close to the cape and that Cabo San Lucan and La Paz would be closing their harbors. Since La Paz is was only 125 miles south of where we were and because we were anchored in the fairly open bay of San Juanico, we decided to move. Just a mile or two around the corner from San Juanico is a cove called La Ramada. It's open only to the north. We pulled in there, dropped the anchor in just 12 feet of water and 4 other boats followed. We spent two days there in comfort watching the swell and wind build. We had gusts to 25 knots in the anchorage. I don't know what the winds were out on the sea.
We left La Ramada yesterday. The first 1/2 hour out was bumpy and we all held on until we found a good direction to hold the boat in order to stay comfortable. The swell was still up but there was no wind. The prediction was for the swell to taper off and the wind to pickup. It did. We had about 60 miles to go and we got to sail for about 75% of the trip in 20 knot winds on a down wind run. Woo Hoo!
We are now anchored in Bahia Concepcion near a couple of little communities. Unfortunately we are only a couple of hundred yards from Hwy 1 and all the trucks use air brakes going down the winding hills. We haven't been off the boat for about a week and this looks like a good spot for a walk so I am looking forward to stretching my legs and back. There is a little restaurant/tienda and a campground on shore. I'm hoping for ice cream.
