Never let a Salvadorian child get ahold of your iPad. It’s just way too fun for them! Today my friend Mary and I took the dinghy over to an island where there about 300 residents and no electricity. There is a Canadian woman there who teaches English lessons. She invited us to be assistant teachers so we headed over this afternoon where we met 4 children ages 6-9. We talked with them in English and broken Spanish and they responded back with Spanish and broken English. They were so shy at first but were obviously eager to learn. After the teacher ran the children slowly through the English alphabet, out came the flash cards and games where they were happy to show off their newly learned skills. Their pronunciation was very good and I was amazed how much English they had already learned.
I brought some school supplies with me from Mexico and rewarded them each with a new notebook and a fancy pencil after the lesson. Then the fun REALLY began. I brought out my iPad and showed them the Photo Booth feature. It didn’t take these bright little bulbs long to learn where to press the screen and how to scroll though the photos.
This photo is their favorite. It had them in stitches for quite a while.
