It’s a small world!
24 February 2016
When we arrived in Barbados, we sent out an email to family and friends announcing our safe arrival. Good pals, Mike & Elaine, were in New York celebrating Mike’s birthday and asked us whereabouts we were on the island, to which we told replied. The next day, we took our time getting ourselves and the boat back in order after 15 days at sea and eventually decided to go ashore and explore.
We left the dinghy at the Yacht Club and as we were walking through, an English guy came up to us and said, ‘Are you Chris & Sandra’. When we said that we were, he promptly handed us a bottle of champagne from Mike & Elaine. It turns out that their friends, Mike & Brenda, were on holiday in Barbados and they asked them if they could find us and deliver their gift. Apparently, we were the last people he was going to ask before giving up. Now, what were the chances of us being there at the same time as Mike was!!
Not only that, Mike & Brenda had a car and offered to show us around the island a few days later. They have been coming to Barbados for the past 11 years, so they knew it very well. We had lunch at the very northern point and looked out across our arrival route. Then we drove down the east coast to see Bathsheba, a major surfing location where we stopped at a local rum shop for a cool down! At the end of the day, we went back to their condo to join a few of their friends for a sundowner on the beach, only to meet a couple from Halifax, Nova Scotia, who knew friends of our cruising friends, Rick & Bonnie.
Now that is definitely a very small world!
