Audra & Gavin had a couple of days on their own in a quirky hotel on the beach in Laborie, in the south of the island. We hired a car and drove down to pick them up and then spent 2 days exploring the island together. St. Lucia is the largest of the English speaking Windward Islands and is mountainous and lush with tropical rainforest in the centre.

We drove through rainforest and banana plantations over to the east coast, as we wouldn’t be taking the boat there. A pit stop above the town of Dennery gave us a panoramic view of the Atlantic Ocean and the brightly painted houses of Dennery itself. From there we continued south and arrived at Mamiku Gardens. The 15-acre gardens have marked pathways and some story boards about its history. The old plantation house serves delicious toasted sandwiches and a great local rum punch!
