Just a short and pleasant 20-minute walk out of town took us to the Diamond Falls & Botanical Gardens, which contain naturally hot mineral baths. Built by King Louis XV1 in 1784 so that his troops could take advantage of their therapeutic effects, we wanted to try them too and so each couple had its own private, mineral-infused, 30-minute bath with piping hot water straight from the volcano!

The gardens were a delight, beautifully and naturally laid out, colourful and interesting. The paths led to a waterfall where the volcanic mineral deposits had coloured the rocks behind.
