Flip the Switch! Just 99 Days Until We Head South

Welcome to the first sail blog from Deja Vu!

With a year of living on board our Catalina 380, over winter too, at Mimico, we are seriously making those final check lists for our voyage south.

Who says your dream has to start when you retire? That's just silly. Well, we will be semi-retired and living our dream now rather than waiting until that "65" that we grew up believing was when you could be free.

For those that know me I am just a wee bit fond of making lists :) but this voyage has had me creating lists of my lists! Super-duper lists that just never seem to end. So we opened a bottle of wine one winter evening this year and took turns at listing one need and then one want of items to buy/make/to-do for our journey. WOW - we are masters at creating lists! Actually the night was really therapeutic (wine drinkers know what I mean) as we seemed to NEED to pour out what was building inside our heads and put to paper - yes paper, no key punching for this one. We came up with a GI-normous list but with many practical and necessary items too.
Top 3 needs: dingy/motor, anchor and handheld VHF radios.
If we left with just those items and nothing else we could survive lol. NO booze you say? Don't worry, even with our dollar worth peanuts in the U.S., wine and liquor will still be cheaper to stock up on our way down. Can't wait to blog (and brag) about our savings.
Some sailors who make their lists and think too much about having everything on board before you leave, just never leave - you've heard this all too many times. Sure, we'd LOVE to have a new manual head, but it might not be in the budget before we leave, so for now our VacuFlush (that gave us trouble in the winter) will have to do.

We are planning on shoving off the dock, weather permitting, the week of September 7, sailing east across the lake to Oswego canal system and on...
DejaVu is our home in Ontario and we will be moving to Vero Beach, Florida -as our first stop on our dream to the Bahamas in the future. We've heard really great reviews from cruisers about Vero and how the area has all that one needs to live comfortably in the warm temps.

Counting down the days: 99,98,97,96....hope you will keep reading my posts and come along on our journey south with us!
