Diligent Preparation Completed
11 September 2010 | Kewalo Basin Harbor

The oceans of the world are inherently dangerous places to travel, however, with diligent and meticulous preperation and planning, the danger can be greatly reduced. Captain Lynn appears to know boats and seamanship better than anyone that I have met or could have hoped to meet. He exudes a level of confidence that is contagious. Under his command, I have no doubt that the Go For Broke and her crew will arrive safely in Morro Bay as planned. We have successfully installed the new ICOM 710 marine side-band radio and upon testing, were received loud and clear by Pacific Seafarers Net on the west coast of California, (pacsea.org). We have a Garmin RADAR with a 36 mile visibilty. The boat has 200 gals. fresh water holding and we have in addition, nearly 70 gals. of purified drinking water from Menehune Water Company's artisian spring, (very tasty stuff). We have enough food on board to last us for over two months without rationing. Yesterday, I bought a rod and reel capable of handling very large fish, (100+ lbs.) In fact, I met a young man at the harbor who had just returned from delivering a boat to California, who caught over 100 large fish during his passage, so appearently they are biting. The fuel tanks have been "polished" and topped off giving us the capability to motor for well in excess of two full weeks with our 850 gals. minimum capacity. Hopefully, we won't need but a small fraction of that, but it's comforting to know that we could literally motor for the majority of the voyage. We've been checking the weather forcast at passageweather.com for weeks, and it looks very promising for favorable winds. The pacific high has been dropping all week which means that we won't have to go as far north before we can cut east. Needless to say, I am extremely excited as this will be the beginning something that I have been dreaming about for nearly my entire life. Wow, it's finally happening after over ten months of hard work and six flights to Hawaii. We will be updating this blog daily. Please feel free to sumit respones to sailblogs.com but realize that we won't be able to read them until we get home, however we will be receiving email at goforbroke@ocens.net Good bye for now, Stephen Arnold
