After a nice day on Graciosa, we had a long night at anchor. Winds shifted, and all the picturesque boats anchored alongside our boat became extreme hazards as the tides changed, scopes dropped and the boats rocked and rolled all night. No one hit, but in the morning, as soon as the sun rose, 10 or so boats pulled anchors to get out of the harbor as fast as we could.
There is a storm crossing the North Atlantic right now, and we are feeling it. We sailed up wind in 25 knots with choppy seas all day. Our cat points surprisingly well, and we definitely made the best time, but we were not recovered yet from Gibraltar, no one had slept well, so it was a little like Wednesday night call after a long call weekend--not a lot of reserves and everyone a bit irritable.
The landscape is beautiful with soft rolling brown hills. This marina is luxurious (i.e. it has a shower). We are going to stay put here for a bit and just get some decent sleep.
