UNBELIVEABLE GENEROSITY
16 July 2012 | Nuku Hiva, Marquesas
Repeatedly we were invited into the homes of people we met on a path or on the beach. They offered all the fruit we could pick (star, grapefruit, mango, guava, papaya, lime, bananas) and we offered in exchange mahi or tuna that we had freshly caught. Very often it would result in a fresh fruit drink or a full meal shared.
In this case we had grilled goat, bread fruit, shrimp, coconut milk and rice.
Philip, the man to the left is wearing a carved bone Tiki around his neck that he had made. Just before we left for TRANQUILITY, he motioned me over, took it off and put it around my neck. To me that gesture typified the entire trip!
I LOVE THE MARQUESAS!
