Michipicoten Island
30 July 2015 | Michipicoten Island, Lake Superior/Canada
Banu
Michipicoten Island is the second largeast island on Lake Superior and is on the north eastern side of the lake. We are in Quebec Harbor, a large bay on the center of the south shore. We anchored on the east end of the bay to get away from the expected strong westerlies. Across to the north are remains of the former fishing station. A few researchers are camping there but we only talked to them once. Winds picked up since we arrived and we are now seeing winds up to 30 knots. Feels good to be in a secure anchorage. We were visited by loons every day but still so sign of the caribou which are supposed to come down to the salt lick every day. Tomorrow we should be able to leave Michipicoten Island and sail north, perhaps to Otter Cove.
