2007 - without sailing
08 May 2008
Welcome to my new blog!
I have decided to try this method since it presented such a problem for me to update my webpage, particularly when cruising. The blog I can update even through my sailmail account while at sea. So no more excuses for the long delays in letting you know what is happening.
One of the reasons for not keeping up with my homepage was (at least that is the excuse) that all during 2007 I have done no sailing! I returned twice to San Francisco. The first trip was in March for an arthroscopy on my right knee. Unfortunately that did not work out. So in July I bought an around the world airline ticket and went again to San Francisco. First to get a total knee replacement. I spent three months there and in October I flew to Denver, the Southwest and finally to Washington DC. After visiting with friends from coast to coast, I took off for Switzerland to fulfill a longtime dream and spend time in a thermal rehab spa in the mountains. It was quite an experience and very pleasant and successful! Then I spent Xmas in Zurich and Germany with my friend Marlies' family. Though I am no longer very fond of cold weather, I really enjoyed an old fashioned Swiss holiday. Early in January I headed back to Australia via Singapore. In Singapore I took a sidetrip to Sabana in Malaysia to visit cruising friends. It really convinced me that I wanted to head there next.
Now things are picking up again in the sailing department: On May 15th I am planning to start my cruise to Sabana. From Bundaberg we are going to head up the east coast to the tip of the York Peninsula and then to Kupang, Indonesia, Bali and Singapore. It should be an interesting trip and if everything goes according to plan you will be able to follow my progress through this blog.
