Sebana Cove, Malaysia
05 September 2008
Finally an update from Singapore, or to be exact from Sebana Cove Marina in Malaysia. Sebana is about an hour's ferry ride northeast of Singapore in a very quiet, nice green spot.
After the last problem we made it easily to Nongsa Point, the last stop in Indonesia, south of Singapore. There we checked out out of that country and headed for Sebana which is about 15nm north.
We arrived in Sebana on August 26 and the children enjoyed (finally) some fun time with a nice big pool at their disposal. On September 1 I accompanied them to Singapore where we went to the Changi prison museum of WW II fame, took a ride on the fabulous subway to downtown, explored the three air terminals and finally got them on the plane back to Australia and home.
Now I am again alone on the boat and am enjoying Sebana. It is really a very peaceful place. I have explored some of the surrounding towns and am constantly amazed how inexpensive life can be and how nice people are. There are many people here who have chosen this as their retirement place and I can understand why - easy access to both rural Malaysia, nice cruising grounds on the East coast, access to a big cosmopolitan city all at a price a retiree can afford.
For the time being I am doing some maintenance work on the boat and just enjoy a leisurely life with reading, swimming, painting and try to keep up with the world on the Internet. Another amazing feature: wireless Internet access is free here!!! I will try to add some pictures from the trip to this blog as soon as I can to give you an idea of where we were and where I am now!
Then I will post (approximately) monthly updates on my activities until I go cruising again - probably up to Thailand if things calm down up there. Please note that you can now use my regular land based email address. I will keep you informed in case I need to get back to sailmail.
In the next few days I hope to post some pictures of the trip in this blog. Hope it will work out!
