Time With Friends, Iceland

24 July 2017 | Hesteyri
Janice
We have made good friends while in Iceland. It was great to be able to spend a last few days with Finnur, Sia and Besse before we leave. They detoured from a trip to Reykjavik to visit us in Isafjörður. They brought with them good weather from Akureyri so there was no excuse for not visiting Hesteyri taking in the old whale / herring processing factory, the cafe in Hesteyri village, then a final peaceful night at the end of the fjord. Besse had bought an inflatable kayak in Reykjavik so he and Janice made its maiden trip followed by Andy. At the village Besse followed an Arctic Fox along the beach. It was returning with food in its mouth, so Besse’s perseverance paid off when he saw it deliver it to the vixen and the cubs. A truly David Attenborough moment for him. All good fun. The morning of 25 July was stunning in the fjord. Getting up early to set off we delayed as the sun burned off the mountain mist forming a fog bow. Finnur used his drone to get above it and take pictures. We got some sailing done and then finished with an excellent lunch in Isafjörður before having to say ‘farewell’ until we next meet … maybe in Greenland or Alaska.
