This afternoon we arrived in Nanortalik Inuit for "The place with polar bears". It is the largest settlement in the area with 1,500 people. We have travelled 1,000nm with Dave from Isafjordur in 15 days, unfortunately most of it has been motoring and we have not seen a polar bear but, we were warned today to keep a wary eye open, 2 were spotted this week in the area! Our fishing attempts so far have been pretty hopeless but the large longline fishing vessel alongside us took pity and gave us 2 large cod for dinner and enough bait to last us the winter. Janice got a fascinating insight into the vessel and its workings. Dave leaves us tomorrow by ferry and then 2 flights back to the UK via Copenhagen. We will continue North once we have reprovisioned and had a couple of days rest. We are now out of Europe as far as mobile phones are concerned so we are facing extorsionate roaming charges- the satellite phone is cheaper -Thank you Orange!
