Aasiaat

11 July 2018 | West Greenland

10 July: Calmer weather today so we enjoyed the motor through the inner lead towards Aasiaat, taking in some awesome ice bergs but also knowing that there are bigger and better to come in a few days time. Clear skies with sunshine meant the laundry dried quicker, hanging in the cockpit on the starboard side with the side up for airflow. All mod cons here!! We decided to stop at Kangaatsiaq to use their internet while anchored just off the town but there was only a signal for emails. We stopped by an island where the sledge dogs are housed for the summer. They got all excited as we anchored thinking we were coming to feed them but in the morning as we raised the anchor they simply ignored us.

11 July: We had a super downwind sail to arrive in Aasiaat late afternoon.

12 July: This morning was pleasantly spent chatting over coffee with Peter off KiwiRoa, who is also doing the NWP. We went and got provisions and had a great conversation with KarlWilliam in the shipyards store. We are leaving Aasiaat this afternoon to explore the anchorages south of Aasiaat and hopefully keep the local internet?

There is noticeably more birds and we have seen two humpback whales and also a large pod of seals (40+) swimming together. Greenland is the only place that we have seen seals behaving like this. The water boils with them swimming on mass, as well as diving on mass.
