On Passage for Canada
08 August 2018 | Baffin Bay
Janice
7am yesterday we departed Upernavik and headed out in constant drizzle for Baffin Bay and Canada. Fortunately the wind gods were good. We quickly got the main and code zero up. In 24 hours we ran 150nm, 94nm under sail which was excellent. The rain continued until 10am today. Now we have fog, occasional sunshine, 1°C water temperature and 5°C air temperature. The team are all good; Dave, Andy and Claire gradually getting familiar with Destiny and sailing her.
We have had a few icebergs looming out of the fog but so far no pack ice the radar is on looking ahead. The further from land we get we are seeing more bird life ie flocks of Little Auks, more Fulmars and Guillemots. Just waiting for the whales! We are in contact with several other boats already in Canada, there is a good community spirit. We expect some isolated pack ice probably today but we are trying to sail around the few remaining areas.
So HAPPY BIRTHDAY MUM, Enjoy it, everyone is a bonus x:-)
