. Musk Ox and Polar Bears
15 August 2018 | Croker Bay
Janice
Another day sitting out weather, like a number of other boats in several locations in Lancaster Sound. Joining us in Croker Bay is a 55m super motor yacht, Bo III. Our resident bear moved off this morning towards the river bed. Another appeared which turned out to be a mother with two cubs.
This afternoon a shore party from Bo III disturbed our resident bear, who gave them a wide bearth despite them advancing towards it. While they engaged the bear, Janice spotted a small herd of Musk Ox further out along the peninsula. The shore party then visited the Musk Ox, which caught a smell or sound of them and promptly bolted towards them until they actually saw the humans, at which point the Musk Ox herded together and froze. Stalemate.
While watching this in-boat entertainment we also checked out how much ice has come into the main bay and the few bits starting to enter our bay.
