Yacht Destiny Eagle Ski Tour

Eagles ski tour to Greenland 23 Apr to 30 April 2019 Ski Guide - Andy Perkins Tour organisers - Andrew and Janice Fennymore-White of Destiny Yacht Day 2 - 25/04 Thursday After an eventful first day spending 2.5 hrs on skidoos followed by a 6.5h very cold ski tour in cloud and very flat light the group faced day 2 with a degree of trepidation. However we woke to a bright sunny day with some cloud cover and no wind! We decided to skin to a peak at 1136m approx 5km in a SE direction after a quick skidoo across the Kangerluarsuk Ungalleq, with the intention to ski back down the same route. Recent fresh snow made the skin up the hidden part of the valley over the blue ice much easier than anticipated. As we entered the glaciated bowl we saw a parhelion (Arctic sun phenomenon) which added to the overall lovely ascent. After a skin and boot up to the peak at 1136m we were met by fantastic panoramic views in all directions with hardly a breath of wind. Breathtaking. Even after all that, the delights did not stop with a superb ski down with everyone smiling with delight. After a simple ski out Andrew ferried us back by skidoo to the hut where we were welcomed with freshly baked bread, fresh cookies and soup prepared by our excellent and friendly hosts. We are looking forward to the rest of the week on our Greenland adventure. Eagles group Mike & Jenny Spencer, Peri Cheal, Anna Seale, Alan Sloan, Tim Moss
