Perfect Extraction

07 May 2019 | Sisimiut, Fjord No 2
Janice Fennymore-White | Blue skies, cool breeze from the slight sea fog
Thanks to the Sirius logistics guys. Our second week of ski touring, led by Guide Andy Perkins, had a perfect extraction back to Sisimiut from our remote ski hut by combination of snow mobile, a landing craft and a Targa 33 motor boat.

After a week of very high temperatures, resulting in breakfasts at 5am, so that the team could be on the summit ready to ski the spring snow at midday, the remaining snow base was too weak or insufficient for us to return to Sisimiut by our regular overland route. The fjord is still sufficiently frozen for us to drive the snow mobiles the 15 km to the sea ice edge where the landing craft waited ramp down on the ice for us to drive the snow mobiles directly on deck. Once loaded the guests boarded the motor boat and had a short 50 minute sail back to Sisimiut.

Our thanks to Eagle Ski Club for another fine group of adventurous skiers.
