Yacht Destiny - Simon Christy Ski Tour 7-14 May 2019 - Day 2
08 May 2019 | Sisimiut, West Greenland
Guest Author Amanda Fuge (Artic Fox)
Our second day in a secret location somewhere possibly North East of Sisimiut kicked off at 5.15am with Team offpistskiing.com leaping out of bed in union to a hearty breakfast prepared lovingly by Janice and Andy. A bit of first tour faffing and we were off hiking up towards Destiny couloir. An interesting ascent initiated with an icy skin and Artic Fox with a malfunction resulting in a ski being sent sliding down back towards the hut, luckily saved by trusty Jason holding up the fort at the rear.
Reverting to a boot pack got us another few hundred metres up, then sun soften snow got us back on the skins, followed by another boot pack. Arriving at exactly 1000m above sea level we were at the summit of the couloir. A quick bite and we began what was a magnificent decent on utterly perfect spring snow! All the morning's hard work paid off in grand sweeping turns on a perfectly cooked couloir.
Another short skin up to musk ox peak to epic views of kangerdluarssuk fjord, we descended back to the hut for soup, homemade bread, and a very civilised G & T. An afternoon of great chats, and extremely refreshing dips in the melt off stream beside the hut, has worked up our appetites for another hearty dinner. Yum yum.
