Yacht Destiny - Simon Christy Ski Tour 7-14 May 2019 - Day 3
09 May 2019 | Sisimiut, West Greenland
Guest Author Simon Christy - www.offpisteskiing.com | Glorious Arctic weather
Day 3 in Greenland with the offpisteskiing.com team dawned with a layer of cloud hanging over the fjord, but with bright patches behind the cloud an optimistic team set out across fjord on the snowmobiles and skinned up towards 'Walrus peak', passing ptarmigan and a pair of reindeer en route. We emerged above the sea of cloud at 700m to a glorious day. Rian wanted some extra training so sent his ski back down the hill for some extra mileage as we swapped to the bootpack up the 'Left Tusk'. Bulletproof snow on the ridge up to the 'Right Tusk' and perfectly cooked spring snow in the top of the line meant we shelved the plan to continue to the ski summit and dropped in to the line for 350m of great spring snow. Arriving back at the gear stash most of the team were psyched for more so we set off for the summit of pt 1162, with stunning views down the Fjord. The low cloud had cleared at lunchtime and we were treated to a great spring snow descent down to 400m, followed by a mix of heather hopping and stream jumping and managed to keep skis on all the way to the beach and a welcome pick-up from Andy & Janice.
