Shaking off the concrete shoes

Yesterday (Sunday) was one week after our arrival in Port Moselle, and that was time, we felt, to move on. You kind of get a bit "nested" in the marina if you're not careful - endless water, solid land and as many amps as you can chew up with DVD players and espresso machines. So we paid up and said our thanks and goodbyes to Franck, the Aussie-born French dock manager and motored out of the harbour. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon and we unfurled the headsail, heading SW towards Ilot Maitre. The breeze was a steady 18 knots, occasionally topping 22. The headsail is 140% and so we made 6.5 knots on a close reach all the way to Maitre. Maitre is a bit like Pittwater is in Sydney - a lot of the locals come here for a weekend away on their yachts. When we arrived all the laid moorings were occupied so we anchored way off for the afternoon and when they all toddled off home for the week, we moved close in to the island and took up a morning in the lee - very still and quiet night and clear skies this morning, with a bright, magnesium white glow from the sun. Today we'll probably snorkel on the fringing reef here and have a relax - we'll be in touch! Cheers from us.
