We have spent the last two days visiting the 4th Melanesian Arts Festival - held out at the Tjibao Cultural Centre over a week.
It is a fun celebration of the various Melanesian cultures and their arts and crafts. Particularly engrossing were the dances from the various countries - along with traditional music and displays of traditional and ceremonial crafts and carvings, these made the days interesting and enlightening.
There are delegations from Fiji, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands and Papua-New Guinea, all very proud of their cultures and happy to demonstrate and explain in their usual self-deprecating Melanesian way. We have put some pics up -
